Where a training instructor knows he/she first has to get to know attendees and their level so the curriculum and approach can be adjusted accordingly on the fly, a leader/manager is not an instructor and may not know, or have the priority to properly adjust to topic/audience. So you post is great advice to them as to the value of them putting extra preparation time in to the event.
